Mentor Program

Mentoring is a one to one relationship between a caring adult and a younger person, the purpose of which is to establish a bond of trust between the participants, uncover and develop the unique talents and potential of the child and be a benefit to both.

                                                                                                                                      – Creative Mentoring

Our program is meant to be a successful and positive experience for both mentors and students. Our goal is to have our students develop a caring, trusting relationship with a community member who will encourage the child to attend school regularly, work hard at school and to enjoy learning. The mentor’s attitude is reflected in the student’s attitude about learning and school. Youth mentoring programs exist to provide role models and help a child develop socially and emotionally and to increase his/her self-esteem. Mentoring has become a powerful avenue to provide positive personal contacts for our youth. Mentors help students learn to understand and communicate their feelings, to relate to their peers, and to develop relationships with other adults. The encouragement given by the mentor is an important aspect of this program. The mentor’s influence can help build a foundation of basic values and challenge students to take responsibility for their actions, helping them to start to set goals and understand the importance of staying in school. As students begin to realize that someone cares, academic performance improves and self-esteem increases. The program welcomes any responsible adult who is willing to share time on a consistent basis and show a student that someone cares about them. As a successful person you will be able to share your experiences with a student and open a new world of possibilities to them.

The word mentor usually refers to a sustained relationship between an adult and a youth. The adult offers guidance, assistance, and support to the youngster. A mentor has the potential to play a critical role in the life of a child.

The Donegal School District has an extensive mentoring program involving employees, parents, and community members who work with individual students throughout their school careers. Interested adults are encouraged to contact any school counselor to obtain more information on becoming involved in this unique program.

We work exclusively with Market Street Sports Group to develop corporate partnerships that provide additional revenue streams for our school district. The collective goal is to build true partnerships that enhance the overall educational experience while allowing local and regional companies exposure through naming rights, sponsorships, and advertising.

If you are interested in developing a proposal for a Donegal venue in or around the school campuses, please contact Jason Jesberger, MSSG President of Marketing, 717-509-2803.
